Sixty-two year old Andras Kerenyi was physically and verbally attacked earlier this month, two men in their early twenties have since been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assault. This comes only months after retired chief rabbi, Jozsef Schweitzer, was verbally abused on a Budapest street.

 

Liberals and ethnic minorities across Hungary have voiced increasing concerns over the rise of ultra-nationalist groups such as Jobbik, a political party which won over 10% of votes in the 2010 legislative election. The party has been widely accused of racism, anti-Semitism and inciting violence against minority groups.
