A few days ago, a 30-year-old Jew, Emil Benjamin, was assaulted in the subway station in New York. Two guys started yelling anti-Semitic remarks towards him inside the train, and then moved on to beatings. In the midst of all the violence, one of the attackers pulled a knife out and stabbed the young man in the back. The criminals managed to escape the crime scene by jumping out of the train at the first station.
The other passengers called an ambulance which came and drove the wounded to the hospital. In the meantime, the police arrested 22-year-old Raphael Padin and 18-year-old Jose Santos, as suspects for Benjamin's assault; one of them was also accused of carrying a weapon.
The police does not intend to investigate the incident as a hate crime, although the passengers mentioned the anti-Semitic remarks towards the man that leave no place for doubt as to the motive of the crime.
