Jews clash in Al-Aqsa on Temple Mount

Dozens of religious Israeli Jews visiting the Al-Aqsa compound in East Jerusalem have claimed they were attacked by chanting Palestinian worshippers.

Israeli police escorting the Jews led at least one Palestinian man out of the compound in handcuffs, as well as detaining one Israeli man.
 
Al-Aqsa mosque is the third holiest site for Islam, and Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad was transported there from Mecca. The mosque is located atop Temple Mount where the two Jewish Temples were located before their destruction.
 
Many Jews believe it is forbidden to walk on the Temple Mount because of the chance they may be treading on the holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant once stood. However, several times a year, Jews who go through a purification ritual visit the site with Israeli police protection.
