Director of Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs Yosef Kuperwasser:
“There is a wide and deep problem of hate indoctrination that produces more and more terrorists all the time…Palestinian Islamic Jihad that is becoming an organization almost as big in terrorism aspects as Hamas movement.”

One senior official said that this growing shift in Gaza means that military operations may no longer be appropriate, identifying a need for an international consensus on how to confront militant activity. Further concerns were raised about the region’s military arsenal, which has grown since the Arab Spring.

Director of Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs Yosef Kuperwasser:
“The variety of weapons they have; anti aircraft missiles anti tank missiles, is growing their capabilities of self production are growing the availability of new weapons outside of the Strip that is on it's way to Gaza is growing because of what happened in Libya and the ongoing commitments of the Iranians to send arms to the Palestinians in Gaza.”

Hamas won parliamentary elections in Gaza in 2006 and began controlling the region the following year. Israel holds Hamas responsible for the 800 or so rockets and mortars fired this year from Gaza into the Jewish state, while the EU, US, and Israel also regard the organization as a terrorist group.
