The French regional council has already put aside EUR 300,000 to fund projects it hopes will improve the lives of Palestinians, 78% of whom, according to the council’s website, live below the poverty line.

The move comes as a blow to Israeli claims to Jerusalem as its unified capital. The Jewish State’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement reconfirming that East Jerusalem “does not exist” as a separate entity and has accused French lawmakers of living in a ‘make-believe’ world.
