The European Jewish Parliament (EJP) expresses its concern and anger in response to the anti-Semitic attacks that have occurred in recent days in France. Amongst them were the attack in Villeurbanne, where three students wearing a yarmulke were confronted by ten youths of North African origin who were armed with hammers and iron bars, the attack of a young Jewish man in Sarcelles by three assailants who hit him, stole from him and hurled anti-Semitic insults at him and a further assault in Marseille of three young Jewish people because one of them was wearing a yarmulke.
The EJP acknowledges the determination of the French Interior Minister, Manuel Valls, in the fight against anti-Semitism by the arrest of suspects in relation to the attacks in Villeurbanne and Sarcelles. The EJP encourages French authorities to continue their efforts in this matter.
The EJP calls for a specific awareness of the responsibility of hatemongers, such as the anti-Zionist activists who, on May 19, held in Marseille a street performance which depicted supposed Israeli soldiers brutalizing Palestinian women and children. This masquerade which stirs up hatred has been rightly denounced by the CRIF - Conseil Représentatif des Institutions juives de France.
The EJP solemnly appeals to the leaders of the Muslim community to tackle this problem with the utmost importance, as some have already done in the past, and to work hand in hand with the EJP and all other organizations fighting against anti-Semitism to stem the upsurge in anti-Jewish violence which has intensified since the cowardly murders of three children and a teacher of the Ozar Hatorah Jewish school in Toulouse.
The EJP's Fight Against Anti-Semitism Committee, led by its two co-chairmen Mr. Raymond Briefel and Mr. Eduard Dolinsky, will work tirelessly with public authorities and community officials to neutralize the scourge of anti-Semitism which is a threat both to French citizens of Jewish faith and to the entire Republic of France.
